La Grande, Oregon. Each year the Oregon Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCТM) recognizes an outstanding contributor to the mathematics community of Oregon. This year the Area Recognition for Area 11 Umatilla/Morrow County recipient is Sonia Borders. She works in La Grande School District at La Grande High School as a math teacher.

Math is advanced among students by teachers and others who work to increase the quality and equity of mathematics education. Oregon Council of Teachers of Mathematics members are teachers, coaches and administrators that work towards this goal for Oregon schools. Sonia Borders is one of those people. Sonia has created a classroom environment that offers struggling students a clear path to improvement and success.
